Protests have erupted throughout Iran following the death of a young woman detained by the Iranian ‘morality police’. It is reported that the authorities have used brutal force against protesters, with thousands arrested and several hundred killed.
There are also reports of the detention of several Iranian lawyers who were practicing their profession and defending people who had expressed dissatisfaction with the Iranian regime. It is imperative that lawyers occupy a special position in all societies, and it is absolutely unacceptable that lawyers are imprisoned simply for fulfilling their legal obligations.
Lindahl supports human rights and condemns the abuses currently taking place in Iran, not least the imprisonment of our Iranian colleagues. Lindahl is also setting up a fundraising campaign for the Lawyers for Iran initiative and Amnesty International.
We want to contribute to the work of creating respect for basic human rights and freedoms, as well as rules regarding the role of independent lawyers.
If you would like to help in supporting a positive development in Iran through Lindahl's collection, further information is available here.
