Earlier this year, Gota Media and Bonnier News Local drew up a letter of intent regarding a strategic partnership. This partnership has now been formalised by entering into an agreement for cross-shareholding. Through this agreement, Gota Media acquires 20 per cent of Bonnier News Local and Bonnier News Local acquires 30 per cent of Gota Media, subject to approval from the Swedish Competition Authority.
The two media houses aim to work together to accelerate the digital transformation and create synergies that enable them to make investments in quality local journalism.
Gota Media is a prominent operator in Swedish local newspaper journalism and is the owner of quality brands and strong local newspapers such as Borås Tidning, Barometern, Smålandsposten, Blekinge Läns Tidning and Kristianstadsbladet.
Bonnier News Local, which is jointly owned by Bonnier News and the Norwegian company Amedia, is a leading local newspaper group with operations in southern and central Sweden. The Group is the result of a previous merger between the former Mittmedia, Hall Media and HD-Sydsvenskan.
