MKB Fastighets AB has acquired the property Malmö Godsfinkan 3 from Jernhusen Holding 6 AB, a wholly owned subsidiary of Jernhusen AB (publ). The block is located at Carlsgatan in the Södra Nyhamnen area, just north of Malmö Central Station. MKB is planning to build approximately 175 residential rental properties (planning permission for a gross area of 20,400 square metres), a smaller number of commercial premises and parking on the property. The property has been acquired in a corporate deal with an underlying property value of MSEK 102, with the company taking possession of the property today, 18 November 2019.
The acquisition represents an opportunity for MKB to be part of the work to develop the future district of Södra Nyhamnen, in a central location close to the main railway station. Nyhamnen is one of Malmö’s largest and most central urban development projects, covering approximately 93 hectares.
MKB Fastighets AB is one of Sweden’s largest council-owned housing companies. With 24,000 apartments and 1,000 commercial premises, worth just over SEK 35 billion, and 32% of the rental market, MKB is the largest property company in Malmö. The company currently has just under 1,300 rental apartments under construction. It is owned by the City of Malmö.
Lindahl has been the legal advisor to MKB during the project. The team consisted of Staffan Brandt (responsible partner), Victoria Volny, Linda Backman, Josefine Engbom and Pernilla Skoglösa.
