Intellectual Property
Lindahl is one of Sweden's leading legal advisors in intellectual property law and our experts are highly ranked by international ranking institutes.

Lindahl regularly assists clients with advice on patents, trademark law, copyright, design rights, and marketing law. Our experts have extensive experience in helping our clients with IP strategies and the ongoing management of clients' trademarks and designs, including application, maintenance, and defense of registration and rights.
Lindahl also provides intellectual property advice in transactions, such as in connection with acquisitions, establishments, and financings. Licensing and transfers of know-how and rights of various kinds are important ways to exploit intellectual property, particularly in the life sciences area. We see a growing need for advice in this area and have extensive experience in negotiating and drafting agreements for the licensing of protected rights.
In disputes within the intellectual property field, special expertise is required, especially given that the cases are often very complex and frequently involve multiple countries. Our lawyers have significant experience in handling commercial disputes, and through our networks, we also manage commercial disputes at an international level.
Together, we work to provide our clients with straightforward answers and clear advice, regardless of the complexity of the assignment.
Intellectual property and marketing law
Intellectual property rights, such as trademarks, often constitute one of the most important and valuable assets of a company. In an increasingly international market, intellectual property rights also serve as a valuable and important competitive tool.
A company's intellectual property assets can consist of ideas, technical solutions, trademarks, or the appearance of products, and these can be protected through patents, trademark protection, and copyright, among other means.
A business owner who wants to protect their assets usually needs to apply for and register their rights. The Swedish Patent and Registration Office (PRV) is the authority in Sweden that registers trademarks, designs, and grants patents. Similarly, other authorities such as WIPO handle international trademark and design registrations, while EUIPO manages EU trademarks and EU designs.
The type of protection relevant for a business owner depends on what has been created. A product or idea can often be protected in several ways, for example, through a patent for the technical solution and design protection for its appearance.
Simply put, the different types of protections are categorized as follows:
A new technical innovation or solution to a problem can be protected by a patent.
Trademark protection provides businesses with protection for the signs used for their products or services.
Artistic expressions, such as music, literature, or computer programs, may be eligible for protection through copyright.
An innovative design, shape, or pattern can be protected as a design right, applicable to both industrial and craft products.
Marketing law can, for example, provide protection against third-party use of misleading copies, derogatory statements, and exaggerated claims about product properties.
Copyright
Copyright has become more complex and difficult to manage with the advent of digitalization. Infringements can occur in many places simultaneously and on a large scale, sometimes without the creator being aware of it.
Design Law
There are many advantages to protecting your design through a design registration. In addition to providing the potential for better profitability, it gives the creator of a product an important advantage.
IPR Control
We offer our clients the ability to access their intellectual property portfolio externally through the tool IPR Control. With this tool, clients can independently check the status of, for example, the trademark and design matters that Lindahl handles.
