Employment law-related issues arise daily for an employer. These may involve entering into various agreements, such as employment contracts, other agreements with employees, or contracts with individual contractors. Employment contracts need to regulate, among other things, pension benefits, bonuses, incentive programs, or other forms of employee rewards. Other important issues include confidentiality, loyalty, and non-compete commitments. An employer may also have to manage terminations and issues related to staff reductions. In these situations, the employer must make decisions with the risk of liability for damages, which is why it is important that the decision is well-founded.

Employment law issues are also of great significance in business transfers, reorganizations, and other types of changes in operations. These issues are often overlooked but can have major consequences in individual cases. For example, a collective agreement that transfers with a business acquisition can entail significant costs for the acquirer.
